Sayang-sayangku sekalian,

We're not going to be in The Podium, Menara Hap Seng this weekend, we're back to being a once a month urban nomad. Thank you for the expressed interests to have a stall, to perform acoustic and to hangout with us this weekend but we're off, sorry love. :o)

We had loads of fun in The Podium, Menara Hap Seng didn't we? And because of your support, The Podium, Menara Hap Seng is now on Klang Velley's lifestyle map, tak caya check KLue magazine. ;o)

But it's time to move on and the Bijou team has now got one installment long Concierge experience to add to our CV. :op

We'll be back in November at a new location. We'll be seeing you folks again, then.

Volunteers Wanted

Remember The Oral Stage? They were with us at Jeumpa D'ramo once as well as at KLue Urbanscapes 2008 and they staged Paula Vogel's 'How I Learn to Drive' at the Actor's Studio not too long ago. Lucky I went to see the play with a girlfriend, the play was rather suggestive. :op

Hello!

The Oral Stage is back with a new anthology of original shorts, written by a group of prolific, up-and-coming Malaysian playwrights. Entitled the seven deadly scenes, this production is slated for mid-til-end December at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) and The Actors Studio Greenhall in Penang.

We're currently on the lookout for young, aspiring thespians to be part of the creative team: actors for an ensemble, stage managers, lighting & sound designers and operators, set builders and publicists.

Auditions/Interviews are scheduled for 18th and 19th October 2008.

Interested individuals should email people@theoralstage.com by 16th October with a short introduction of themselves and stating their area(s) of interest. Also state your preferred audition/interview session: morning or afternoon. Note that participation is on a pro-bono basis, and past theatre experience isn't necessary.

Bijou Raya Sakan Open House: 'Balik Kampung'
Saturday + Sunday 11 - 12 October 2008

We'll be bringing back the infamous soda kampung from Melaka this weekend. We'll also be retailing aiskrim 'Malaysia', which lasted less than one hour back in Jeumpa D'ramo before it got sold out! :op

There will be a play area where you'll will be invited to engage in a game of congkak, dam haji, tutup botol (from the soda kampung) and more. Oh! Iwan-g had posted a challenge, anyone who's able to beat her at congkak will win a drink of their choice from Starbucks belanja.

HOW TO GET TO THE PODIUM, MENARA HAP SENG?

I might not be the best person to give directions, as I still do call my mom to get around KL. So, here's a map. :op

The landmarks near Menara Hap Seng are Ruums, Nuovo + Shagri La? At that traffic light junction, you will see a Mercedez Benz + Smart cars dealership. Menara Hap Seng, which houses The Podium is the white building right behind the showroom. Entrance to the basement carpark is right next to the showroom.

Though The Podium, Menara Hap Seng is right smack in the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, their weekend parking rate is only RM 3 per entry, y'all! (The next time I have a dinner function in Shangri La, I know where to park. :op)

If you don't feel like driving into KL, you may take the KL Monorail. The nearest stop is Jalan Chulan Station. Just walk down towards Ruums/Nuovo, Menara Hap Seng is the white building behind Mercedez Benz + Smart cars dealership, across the road to Ruums/Nuovo.

If you need directions, you can call 012.398.9849 or 019.655.9945 or 012.607.3011. If we're lost ourselves, we'll pass the mobile to someone who can give you directions, at the bazaar. :o)

p.s. Say if you're taking the cab + the driver goes all blur on you, when you ask them for Menara Hap Seng, tell them it's the building formerly known as Plaza MUI.

Some things cost more than you realise

I personally believe that children deserve the freedom to play. The development of a moral sensibility begins with play. Children teach themselves about the value of life by engaging with their own virtual realities and other children at play, in a personally meaningful manner. Suppressing the play instinct encourages frustration, resentment and twisted interests, all of which can transmute into violent demands for freedom.

But at the same time, I do understand why some children are pushed to work at a very young age. I've met one 15 year old peddling DVDs and cried when asked why was she not in bed, since it's a school day the next day. Apprently, her dad passed away recently and her mom was not well enough to work, she's the eldest of six siblings.

True, some things cost more than you realise ...
